Terms & Conditions
Plain-language terms covering how you can use The Time Story, what you keep, and what we're responsible for.
Last updated 17 August 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using The Time Story ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for that organisation.
2. Description of The Time Story
The Time Story is a storytelling platform where people create, publish, explore and compare visual timelines — called TimeStories — about people, events, organisations and ideas.
The Service includes optional AI-assisted drafting, media and link enrichment, comparison tools, exports, comments, messaging and social features such as following and bookmarking.
3. User Accounts
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it up to date.
Keep your credentials confidential. Tell us at once if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If local law sets a higher minimum age for online services, that age applies.
4. User-Generated Content
You keep ownership of the TimeStories, moments, media, comments and messages you create.
By submitting content you grant The Time Story a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for display, and — for content you choose to publish publicly — publicly display and distribute that content, solely for the purpose of operating, improving and promoting the Service. This licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies retained in backups for a limited period or where retention is required by law.
You are responsible for the content you publish, including making sure you have the rights needed to publish it.
5. AI-Generated Content
The Service can draft timeline structures, summaries, descriptions, cover artwork and comparison insights using AI models.
AI output can be incomplete, outdated or simply wrong, including dates, names and causal claims.
You should verify factual information — especially anything historical, biographical, medical, legal or financial — before relying on it or publishing it.
AI output is not authoritative and is not professional advice. Once you publish it, the content is yours and you remain responsible for it.
6. Copyright and Intellectual Property
The Service itself — its software, design, branding and original materials — belongs to The Time Story or its licensors.
Only upload or link media you own or are permitted to use. Respect the licence terms of any third-party image, video or text you include, and credit sources where required.
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, contact us with enough detail to identify the work and the content in question, and we will review it.
7. Prohibited Content and Conduct
You may not use the Service to publish, send or promote: illegal content; content that infringes copyright or other rights; harassment, threats or targeted abuse; hate speech or discriminatory attacks on protected groups; defamatory claims; impersonation of a person or organisation; spam or unsolicited promotion; fraud or deceptive schemes; sexual content involving minors or non-consensual sexual content; or malware and malicious code.
You may not scrape at scale, probe or interfere with the Service, bypass access controls or rate limits, abuse AI generation, or otherwise disrupt the platform or other people's use of it.
8. Public Content
Content you choose to publish publicly can be seen by anyone, including people without an account, and can appear in explore, trending, search, comparison and featured surfaces.
Public content may be shared through platform features such as links, embeds, exports and social sharing, and may be indexed by search engines.
9. Private and Draft Content
Drafts and unpublished TimeStories are intended to stay restricted to you according to the platform's privacy controls, which are enforced by database-level access rules.
No online service can guarantee absolute confidentiality. Please do not store highly sensitive personal information in the Service.
10. Comments, Messaging and Community Features
Comments, direct messages, follows, likes and shared comparison sessions exist so people can discuss stories constructively.
These features are not private channels for unlawful activity, and messages may be reviewed when reported. Authors can moderate comments on their own TimeStories.
11. Reporting and Content Moderation
You can report a TimeStory, moment, comment or account that appears to break these Terms or our Community Guidelines.
We may review reported content and restrict, unpublish or remove it, and we may act on content we discover ourselves. We aim to be proportionate, but we do not pre-screen everything published on the Service.
12. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate an account that repeatedly or seriously breaks these Terms, or where required by law.
You can stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time by writing to us.
13. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service relies on third parties for hosting, authentication, storage and AI processing, and TimeStories can link to or embed third-party material such as Wikipedia articles and YouTube videos.
We do not control third-party content or services and are not responsible for them. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.
14. Service Availability
The Service is provided on an ongoing but not guaranteed basis. Features can change, and access can be interrupted for maintenance, upstream outages or reasons outside our control.
We do not promise a specific uptime level and may add, alter or withdraw features.
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service and all content on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law.
We do not warrant that content — including AI-assisted or user-submitted content — is accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, The Time Story is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, data or goodwill arising from your use of the Service.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
17. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify The Time Story against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from content you publish or from your breach of these Terms or of applicable law.
18. Changes to the Service
We continue to develop the Service and may add, change or retire features. Where a change materially reduces functionality you rely on, we will try to give reasonable notice in the product.
19. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision, and continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over disputes relating to them, unless mandatory consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
